The HSE is enhancing the security of the national Healthmail service by implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA)
This is relevant to all medical prcationers who access the HSE Healthmail service.
Please be advised that the HSE has begun implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) across the Healthmail system. While this transition has caused some disruption, it is a necessary step to enhance the security of sensitive medical communications.
Although the initial rollout was paused due to widespread issues, the HSE has confirmed that the MFA changeover will again proceed and is mandatory. It is important that practices take proactive steps to prepare. All GP’s have been sent an email from HSE.
We have attached the official HSE guides which outline the process and what needs to be done to ensure a smooth setup—particularly for those using Outlook, where configuration will help avoid further issues.
Important to note is Microsoft Authenticator can seemingly be setup on 5 mobile devices for the one account. Our advice is that we pay you a site visit, configure a mobile, preferebly the practice mobile, for text message authentication and also configure Outlook for emails.
